Wow, what a day I have had today! It’s Friday the 13th folks, and I never considered myself superstitious until today. I left the house this morning to go and buy our dogs some food (because my lovely hubby forgot 2 days in a row, cough cough). So I jammed over to the pet supply store, grabbed the 30 pound bag, heaved it over my shoulder and ran back to my car. I was in a hurry to get to work!
Well, I put the key in the ignition and the dang thing wouldn’t budge. I tried jiggling the steering wheel, and then violently tugging at it, trying to get the key to turn so that I could start the engine. To make a long story short, nothing worked so I called the hubby who quickly came to the rescue, and I suddenly remembered why I keep him around. My hero!
We actually ended up having to call AAA and from there found out that my car was going to have to be towed. It was pouring rain outside, and my husband helped the super nice AAA technician get my car onto the tow truck to be sent in for its diagnosis.
What’s the point of my story you ask? Simply put, this repair is going to cost us anywhere from 1000 to 1500 bucks. This really sucks! (Update, car dealer just called and the grand total is $1200, shoot me now!)
The only good news is that we set aside a stash of cash to take care of these unexpected and very unwanted expenses. So I guess you can say we have done a good job at putting away for a rainy day.
I suggest you all do the same! I know it’s annoying, but when these things happen, you will be so glad that you have a little cash stashed away so that you can avoid putting the charge on your credit card.
In addition to miscellaneous auto, you should also set money aside for things like pet health and home maintenance expenses. It doesn’t really matter if you have separate savings goals for each of these or lump them all in one category, but I recommend you make a good estimate and build up these savings accounts to cover your bum.
Man, when it rains, it pours! Happy Freaky Friday to you all!!!
